Wasted money as fans fail to use their season tickets
Fri, 30 Jul 2010 14:38:26 +0000

Chelsea Manchester United Premier League fans wasted an amazing £42.5 million last year by not using their season tickets. The average supporter missed four games in the 2009/10 season which equates to £93 based on the price of a Premier League season ticket. Over 1.75 million Premier League season ticket seats were left empty in total according to a study. Chelsea and Manchester United already offer a season ticket exchange and more clubs are being encouraged to follow suit. Chelsea chief executive Ron Gurley said: "Since we launched the ticket exchange three seasons ago, tens of thousands of tickets for Stamford Bridge that might otherwise have gone to waste have been resold safely and legally."   Need your Chelsea news fix? Carson will use West Brom to make his mark in the Premier League
Fri, 30 Jul 2010 14:37:12 +0000

West Bromwich Albion World Cup West Bromwich Albion keeper Scott Carson insists both he and the Baggies want to stay in the Premiership. Carson, was part of the Albion side most recently relegated from the top flight in 2008-09. But they are keen to make their swift stays a thing of the past and Carson hopes he can play his part in the club's steady rise, rebuilding his stock in the process. The 24 year old is back in the big time and asked whether he has unfinished business, the keeper said: "Yes, definitely. Most of the football that I've played in my career has been in the Premier League and everyone wants to play there. "I want to try and cement this club as a Premier League side and cement myself as a Premier League goalkeeper for the next six to 10 years. "We're one of the clubs that have this yo-yo tag and, as a group of players, we want to play at the highest level and that's the Premier League. "So we want to try to end this tag." Carson is now a more assured stopper and he sees an opportunity to force his way into the England reckoning, especially considering events at the World Cup in South Africa. "I'm pretty confident this season if I can play well and consistently then hopefully I've got a chance of getting back in the England set-up, which is what I want to do," he added.   Need your West Bromwich Albion news fix? Redknapp 'kicks-off' over Tottenham's fixture congestion
Fri, 30 Jul 2010 14:36:30 +0000

Harry Redknapp Manchester City Tottenham World Cup Harry Redknapp is fuming over Tottenham's fixture congestion and the logic of an international week before the season. Redknapp will lose the majority of his squad for the week in the build-up to Tottenham's Premier League opener against Manchester City on August 14 due to international fixtures on August 11, when England play Hungary. Spurs will then face a Champions League qualifier in mid-August and their manager is less than impressed with the overload in matches. "It's crazy," he told a press conference after the defeat to Villarreal. "We pile more games in. The last thing we need really is to be playing games. "We need to train. I need to get the players on the training pitch because all we do is play and recover. "I didn't want this game tonight. Too many games have been scheduled and it's a problem." He added: "Can someone tell me why we have an international week on the week of the season starting? "They have just been away as a group together to the World Cup. They have come home, they're probably sick of the sight of each other. "Now they are going to have an international week before we play the first game of the season and then we play a Champions League qualifier. "I won't see those players from the Saturday night until the Friday before we play Manchester City. I won't see them once, not once. "How can that be a way to prepare for the start of the season?" Redknapp continued: "There will probably be one or two players left at the training ground for the whole week before we play Manchester City. "Why? What is the point in it? A meaningless (international) friendly for what reason?"   Need your Tottenham news fix? Click here for all Spurs news and transfer rumours.

UEFA to investigate racist chants at Liverpool's Europa clash
Fri, 30 Jul 2010 14:34:28 +0000

Liverpool UEFA have confirmed they are aware of claims racist chants were directed at Liverpool's players during Thursday night's Europa League victory against FK Rabotnicki in Macedonia. The governing body are waiting to assess reports from both the UEFA delegate and the referee before taking any action against FK Rabotnicki. Pictures emerged after the game that showed Rabotnicki fans appearing to direct so-called 'monkey taunts' at Liverpool players. Liverpool started the game with two black players in David Ngog and David Amoo. A spokesman for UEFA told Press Association Sport: "We are aware of the matter but we are waiting for the reports from the delegate and the referee." Once UEFA have assessed the reports, a disciplinary case could be opened against FK Rabotnicki.   Need your Liverpool news fix? Click here for all Reds news and transfer rumours.
Bum note for gold-plated Lampard ipods!
Fri, 30 Jul 2010 14:33:08 +0000

Chelsea Frank Lampard World Cup Five thousand unsold gold-plated Frank Lampard iPods are to be "melted down" and rebranded with children's cartoon character Hello Kitty. England and Chelsea star Lampard teamed-up with Goldgenie to launch the 64GB gold-plated iPod at Harrods before the World Cup but they have flopped following the dismal performance of Fabio Capello's side in South Africa. The 24-carat iPod Touch cost up to £599 and featured Lampard's laser-etched signature on the back. A Goldgenie spokesman said: "We may have over-ordered due to World Cup hopes." Lampard donated all his royalties on the sale of the iPods to the Teenage Cancer Trust. A source told The Sun: "They're melting down all the Frank Lampard iPods. "It's not exactly melting down - it's a chemical process. But basically Goldgenie are recovering all the gold so they can use it again. "They thought loads of people would want them during the World Cup but the backlash against England was so bad that they've had to scrap the whole thing."   Need your Chelsea news fix?
