Oil trade flows already hit by Iran sanctions - IEA
Sat, 11 Feb 2012 13:26:31 +0400

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has said sanctions on Iran are already hitting global oil flows even though a European ban on imports from the Islamic Republic does not come into effect until July, Reuters has reported. The sanctions, designed to curb Iran's nuclear programme that Washington and its allies say aims to produce an atomic bomb, could affect far more Iranian oil than the 600,000 barrels per day (bpd) sold last year to the European Union, said the IEA. "International sanctions targeting Iran's existing oil exports do not come into effect until July 1, but they are already having an impact on crude trade flows in Europe, Asia and the Middle East," it said in its monthly Oil Market Report. As part of the deal, QEWC will buy IDB's 38.9% interest in AES Oasis, the 60% owner of the holding company for AES Jordan, QEWC said. No deal value was disclosed for the transaction, which is expected to close in the first-quarter of 2012. The Amman East power plant has an installed capacity of 370 megawatts. [AMEInfo.com]
China pressures Iran, boosts Saudi and Russian oil imports
Thu, 09 Feb 2012 10:00:09 +0400

China is seeking alternative oil supplies to offset a decline in its imports from Iran, as it negotiates lower prices from Tehran, and has been drawing heavily on Saudi Arabia, Reuters has reported, citing industry sources. Beijing had bought the bulk of an increase in crude oil supplies from top oil exporter Saudi Arabia in the last few months, the sources said. "On average, Saudi exports went up by 200,000 barrels per day and this went to the East, overwhelmingly to China," said one of the sources, a senior executive with the trading arm of a US oil company.
