A prominent headline in Le Patriote (p. 1) announces that the Ivorian army has declared war on armed gangs and highway banditry in Cote d'Ivoire. "We'll track them down throughout the country," the paper quotes General Soumaila Bakayoko, the Chief of Defense Staff, as saying after a meeting that brought together top military brass yesterday in Abidjan. The meeting, the report says, was to hammer out a plan aimed at fighting armed robbery and restoring security in Cote d'Ivoire.
